Reply with quote | #1 | Fists through walls, motherfuckers!
I'm furious. I'm wrenching-my-hair-like-Larry-Fine fucking furious. There are few other instances of such impotent rage that come to mind. Like choking on my own bile and shit. Nothing is good. Nothing.
I'm heads-up in an $8.80 triple shootout satellite on PokerStars. Winner gets a seat in the $215 1.5MM Guaranteed Sunday tournament. My stack is less than three big blinds under my opponent.
It's not even worth telling you the entire hand. Here's all you need to know:
I had AKs, he had A5o. Raising and re-raising gets all the money in before the flop. The flop comes K-4-K rainbow. And he still won.
What's worse, this is in fact the second time in as many weeks I've been in against a smaller ace, tripped my kicker on the flop and still lost.
Unsurprisingly, he had no comment.

Reply with quote | #3 | Runner runner straight is right. This kind of shit happens to me so much these days, it's to the point where I get that paranoid twinge that my jaded expectations are somehow causing outcomes like this. When the deuce fell on the turn, I said out loud, "Oh no, don't you fucking dare." And wham, dare it did, trey on the river. I was as dumbfounded as I was livid.
I mean, the beat is bad in and of itself, but in context of the situation - namely, with a seat in the biggest, baddest weekly game on PokerStars at stake for one of us - it was a double fuck-you.
My largest frustration with poker is how goddamn streaky it runs for me. I mean, fine, give me these beats - they happen - but give them to me mingled with the other possible outcomes to a proportion that more or less reflects the odds. That's never what happens. In fact, of all the years I've played, I can't think of any noteworthy length of time like that even once. I'm either running sicko hot, where not only do my favorites dominate, but I manage to pull every ridiculous card out of my ass when necessary as well. That goes on for about two or three months, and then after that, the complete opposite for the same amount of time. My monster hands, pre- and post-flop, get mangled in the most absurd way possible, and I can barely hit a board to save my life. In the tournament in question, you wouldn't believe what I had to go through just to get to heads up (at least three counter-counterfeitings). Such periods of boom and bust are really starting to wear on me.

Reply with quote | #5 | yeah, i've actually gotten to the point where i consciously try not to say "don't you dare" or "not like that" before a card because i find that inevitably brings the card. for example, the 2-outer T that came to trip rhett's hand when i'd paired my ace and said "oh man i'm gonna win one" the other night! __________________ "i drank what?" - socrates
